Toerisme zal een van de zwaarst getroffen worden in de Verenigde Staten omdat het Coronavirus hun reis- en toerisme-industrie op belangrijke markten vernietigt.
Als het erom gaat economieën in de Verenigde Staten in gevaar te brengen, is het toerisme niet alleen een kwetsbare bedrijfstak, maar velen die in de sector werken, werken van salaris tot salaris. Olie is een andere sector waarin mensen vrezen voor banen en zich afvragen hoe ze hun volgende huur kunnen betalen.
In het hele land storten de consumentenuitgaven - die 70% van de economie ondersteunen - in de gemeenschap na gemeenschap in, aangezien mensen winkels, restaurants, bioscopen, kantoren en andere openbare plaatsen vermijden. De ontslagen zijn al op grote schaal begonnen
Volgens het eerste onderzoek van De Brookings-instelling, een openbare beleidsorganisatie zonder winstoogmerk gevestigd in Washington, DC. economieën die schitteren als het toerisme goed is, worden het hardst getroffen door de verspreiding van het COVID-19-monstervirus
Ze omvatten Las Vegas in Nevada, New York, Orlando, Florida, Maui, Hawaii en Waikiki, Hawaii.
Om dit te illustreren, bracht het instituut de werkgelegenheidsgeografie in kaart van een reeks bedrijfstakken die kwetsbaar zijn voor verstoring door virusgerelateerde vraagafname, stillegging en ontslagen.
